Overdue stays
A guest still checked in after the departure time or date, and what the night audit does with them.
A stay is overdue when the guest is still Checked in after their departure time. Either the guest stayed on, or someone forgot to check them out. Only staff know which, so Estatell shows it on the dashboard and asks you.

Where you see it
- Dashboard, on the Today tab: the stay shows with an Overdue badge (1) and a Check out button. It shows once the departure time has passed, or when the departure date is before today.
- Night audit checklist: a Not checked out row for each stay that departs on or before the business date.
What to do
| What happened | Do this |
|---|---|
| The guest left and nobody checked them out | Check them out now. See Check-out. |
| The guest is leaving later today | Give a late check-out. |
| The guest stays one more night | Extend the stay. See Change a stay. |
Before the night audit: the guest was due yesterday
If it is after midnight and the night audit has not run, the check-out form asks what happened:
| Card | What it does |
|---|---|
| They left yesterday | Checks the guest out on yesterday's date. No extra night is charged. |
| They stayed last night | Adds last night to the bill, then checks the guest out today. |
What the night audit does
The night audit follows your property's Overdue departure setting, under Settings.
| Setting | A guest due today who is still checked in |
|---|---|
| Extend one night | The stay is extended to tomorrow and one more night is charged. |
| Block departure | No new night is charged. The stay waits on the audit list until you finish it. |
A stay that was due before today is never extended by the audit. It waits on the list until you check the guest out.
Special cases
| Situation | Example | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| No room to extend into | Extend one night is set, and the room is booked tomorrow. | • The audit cannot extend the stay. It lists it as a problem. | • Move one of the guests, or check the guest out. |
| The guest stayed, and another guest has the room | The guest slept in room 204, which is booked for last night. | • "Room 204 is booked by another guest for 20 Oct. Move one of them first." | • Move one of the guests, then try again. |
| A day use runs late | A day use guest is still in the room at 6 pm. | • The audit never extends a day use. It lists it as a problem. | • Check the guest out. |
| A group room is overdue | One room of a group was due yesterday. | • Group check-out treats it as They left yesterday. | • If the guest stayed, check that room out on its own. |
