Set up MyKad Reader
Install MyKad Reader once on a front-desk computer so Estatell can read a MyKad, then check that it works, update it or remove it.
MyKad Reader is a small app. Install it once on each front-desk computer that has a card reader. After that, Estatell can read a MyKad and fill the guest form for you. You do not need to open it again.
It has no window. It shows a small icon near the clock on Windows, or at the top of the screen on a Mac. The icon menu tells you whether the card reader is plugged in, whether a card is in it and whether an Estatell page is open.
Before you start
- Card reader: an ACS ACR39U.
- Computer: Windows 10 or 11, or macOS 15 or later.
- Account: an admin account on the computer. You need it to install.
- Time: about 2 minutes for each computer.
- Permission in Estatell: none. MyKad Reader runs on the computer, not in your Estatell account.
Install it on every computer that has a card reader. A computer with no reader does not need it.
Download
Use only these links. Do not download MyKad Reader from anywhere else.
| Computer | Link |
|---|---|
| Windows | Download for Windows |
| Mac | Download for Mac |
Each link works on every supported computer of that type. You do not need to know which chip your computer has.
Install on Windows
- Select Download for Windows. If your browser stops the download, see My browser blocked the download.
- Open the file.
- Windows asks you to confirm, as it does for new apps. Select More info, then Run anyway, then Yes.
- If your security software asks, choose Allow.
- Follow the steps until the installer ends.

Install on a Mac
- Select Download for Mac.
- Open the file.
- Your Mac asks you to confirm the first time. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and select Open Anyway.
- Open the file again, follow the steps and enter your Mac password.

Check it works
- Find the MyKad Reader icon. On Windows it is near the clock. If you do not see it, select ^ to show more icons. On a Mac it is at the top of the screen.
- Click the icon. The menu shows 🟢 Ready. Insert a MyKad and Card reader: with the name of your card reader.
- Open check-in in Estatell. The chip shows Ready for MyKad, and the icon menu shows Estatell: page open.
- Put any MyKad in the reader. The guest form fills. Estatell saves nothing until you select Save.

If something else shows, see MyKad Reader problems.
What the icon menu shows
| Line | What it says |
|---|---|
| 🟢 Ready. Insert a MyKad | The card reader is plugged in and no card is in it. |
| 🟢 MyKad inserted | A card is in the reader. |
| ⚪ Plug in the card reader | Estatell cannot find the reader. |
| ⚪ Open for another user on this computer | MyKad Reader is open for another person who is signed in to this computer. |
| Card reader | The name of the reader, for example ACS ACR39U, or not found. |
| Estatell | page open when an Estatell check-in page is open on this computer. no page open when none is. no page open is not a problem. |
| Set-up help | Opens this page. |
| Restart MyKad Reader | Starts MyKad Reader again. |
The menu has no Quit, so nobody can stop check-in by mistake. The menu never shows card details.
Update
When Estatell shows Update required, select the chip. It opens the download for your computer. Open the new file once. It replaces the old copy by itself, so you do not need to remove anything first.
Remove
- Windows: open Settings, then Apps, and remove Estatell MyKad Reader.
- Mac: open the Applications folder, then the Estatell folder. Open Uninstall Estatell MyKad Reader.app and enter your Mac password.
