MyKad Reader problems
What to do when the MyKad chip in Estatell says something is wrong, the card is not read, or the download will not open.
Find what you see in the table, then do what it says. If the problem stays, contact Estatell support.
Before you start
- You need MyKad Reader on the computer. See Set up MyKad Reader.
- The icon menu is the small menu you get when you click the MyKad Reader icon. On Windows the icon is near the clock. If you do not see it, select ^. On a Mac it is at the top of the screen.
Problems

| The chip says MyKad Reader isn't running | Select Restart MyKad Reader in the icon menu, or restart the computer. If there is no icon, install it again. |
| The chip says Plug in card reader | Plug the reader in. Try another USB port. |
| The card is not read | Take the card out. Put it in again, chip first and face up, then wait. |
| The icon menu says Estatell: no page open while check-in is open | Reload the page. If it stays, see MyKad Reader refused this page. |
| MyKad Reader refused this page | Use Estatell at app.estatell.com. Contact support if you use another address. |
| There is no MyKad Reader icon | On Windows, select ^ near the clock. Otherwise restart the computer. |
| Security software removed MyKad Reader | Restore it and choose Allow, then install it again. |
| The chip says Update required | Select the chip, then open the new file once. See Update. |
| My browser blocked the download | See below. |
My browser blocked the download
Your browser may stop the download and say the file might be dangerous. This can happen with a new app that the browser does not know yet.
- Check where the file came from. Only keep it if you used a link on Set up MyKad Reader.
- Open your browser's list of downloads.
- Find the MyKad Reader file. Choose to keep it.
- Open the file and follow Install on Windows.
Never download MyKad Reader from an email, a chat message or any other page. If you are not sure where a file came from, delete it and start from Set up MyKad Reader.
MyKad Reader refused this page
MyKad Reader only talks to Estatell. It refuses a page that is on another address. Open Estatell at app.estatell.com and try again. If your hotel uses another address, contact support.
